H-TCP: TCP for high-speed and long-distance networks

چکیده
In this paper we present a congestion control protocol that is suitable for deployment in highspeed and long-distance networks. The new protocol, H-TCP, is shown to fair when deployed in homogeneous networks, to be friendly when competing with conventional TCP sources, to rapidly respond to bandwidth as it becomes available, and to utilise link bandwidth in an efficient manner. Further, when deployed in conventional networks, H-TCP behaves as a conventional TCP-variant.

Performance Evaluation and Comparison of Transport Protocols for Fast Long-Distance Networks
It is well known that TCP does not fully utilize the available bandwidth in fast long-distance networks. To solve this scalability problem, several high speed transport protocols have been proposed. They include HighSpeed TCP (HS-TCP), Scalable TCP (S-TCP), Binary increase control TCP (BIC-TCP), and H-TCP. These protocols increase (decrease) their window size more aggressively (slowly) compared...
متن کاملH-TCP: A framework for congestion control in high-speed and long-distance networks
In this paper we present a new AIMD congestion control algorithm, H-TCP, that is suitable for deployment in high speed and long distance networks as well as conventional networks. H-TCP generalises the AIMD strategy to significantly improve the manner in which responsiveness and efficiency scale with path bandwidth-delay product and level of queue provisioning within the network. The performanc...
متن کاملExtending equation-based congestion control to high-speed and long-distance networks
TCP-friendly rate control (TFRC), an equation-based congestion control protocol, has been a promising alternative to TCP for multimedia streaming applications. However, TFRC using the TCP response function, has the same poor performance as TCP in high-speed and long-distance networks. In this paper, we propose high-speed equation-based rate control (HERC), as an extension of TFRC by replacing t...
متن کاملCompound TCP+: A Solution for Compound TCP Unfairness in Wireless LAN
In high-speed and long-distance networks, TCP NewReno, the most popular version of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), cannot achieve sufficient throughput owing to the inherent nature of the congestion control mechanism of TCP. Therefore, in order to overcome this limitation, Compound TCP was proposed. Compound TCP can achieve a considerably higher throughput than TCP NewReno in high-speed an...
متن کاملTCP-Adaptive in High Speed Long Distance Networks
With the development of high performance computing and increasing of network bandwidth, more and more applications require fast data transfer over high-speed long-distance networks. Research shows that the standard TCP Reno cannot fulfill the requirement of fast transfer of massive data due to its conservative congestion control mechanism. Some works have been proposed to improve the TCP throug...
